Albion Fat Bike Festival

Along with my riding buddy, I had some fun at the annual Albion Fat Bike Festival. Again, Tom and I rode the Poker Run, as we’re not the super competitive types. That being said, there are some other interesting places to ride in the series, so we we’re planning on trying out some “real” races.

On this ride, I tried out two new things. On the bars I installed a set of 45NRTH Cobrafist Pogies which proved to be fantastic at keeping my hands warm in -9 C weather. Using only a thin liner glove, my hands were toasty! This worked much better than using the huge ski gloves I normally wear. Second was the installation of a set of oh-my-gawd expensive studded tires – Wrathchild’s again from 45NRTH. The track had been reported to be icy and after crashing last year I decided I was worth the extra cost. They hooked up well on the icy section and I never broke traction.  They’re slow rollers but then again so am I. Good stuff. With the freeze/thaw cycle we get I hope to get out more often on the fattie as I have less concern about ice!
